The International Dygilev Festival is aimed at maintaining and developing the traditions of the outstanding impresario and propagandist of Russian culture, Sergei Pavlovich Dyagilev.
It is no coincidence that it is the Perm Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. P. I. Tchaikovsky initiated the first Dygilevsky festival in Russia. Perm is a city in which Sergey Dyagilev passed his childhood, in which there is the only House Museum in the world of the legendary impresario. The building of the Perm Opera House was built thanks to the significant financial support of the Dyagilevs.
A distinctive feature of the festival is associated with its multi-genre character. Sergei Dyagilev's many-sided activities in the fields of opera and ballet theater, music, visual arts, publishing are now serving as a model for searching for new artistic meanings in addressing various forms of interaction with the audience.
Three main areas of the project: the main program, the educational program and the festival club - cover opera and ballet performances, concerts of chamber and symphonic music, exhibitions, performances, lectures, master classes, etc. The main program of last year was marked by the premiere of Arthur Onegger’s octory “Jeanne on a Fire” staged by world-famous director Romeo Castellucci, a series of nightly concerts, performance by legendary artist Meredith Monk, performance of the Fourth Symphony by Gustav Mahler on a specially equipped platform within the walls of the former factory hall and other iconic events.
The festival is distinguished by the scale and quality of the program, unprecedented for a regional project. Every year leading musicians, directors, dancers, vocalists, theater experts come to Perm to take part in a grandiose marathon of arts. In recent years, they included Rober Wilson, Romeo Castellucci, Audrey Bonnet, Denis Lavan, Alain Platel, Meredith Monk, Vladimir Varnava, Vyacheslav Samodurov, Bruno Cox, Alexey Lyubimov, Alexey Goribol.
Over the years of its existence, the Dyagilev Festival has acquired a unique look, which included traditional night concerts in the Perm Gallery, pianogala, Mahler's symphonies performed by the festival orchestra, children's workshops, etc. Focused on different groups of audiences, the festival not only strengthens Perm’s position in the global theatrical context, but also enriches the local cultural landscape. The significance of the project is confirmed by the increased attention paid to it by the public and the professional community.
