The festival of military-historical reconstruction and medieval culture "Iron City" recreates the events of 13-17 centuries of Russia and Europe, gives the opportunity to "dive" in the Middle Ages, acquaintance with the culture, traditions, customs, life and feats of arms of medieval warriors. The main festival site takes place on a plateau above the Gorodishchensky lake. The program of the event is diverse and interesting, including the grand opening of the festival, the passage and the construction of participants, a parade-presentation of clubs, a historical costume defile, a battle according to the rules of maneuvers, a foot tournament, an archers' tournament, equestrian competitions. The most spectacular event of the festival is the massive full-contact foot battles of warriors, clad in real armor - buhurts.

A special interest of the audience is the reconstruction of the battlefield episode "17th century in the history of Izborsk". Participants of the festival demonstrate techniques for handling muskets, pikes and artillery pieces. All actions during the event are accompanied by vocal commentary by professional historians explaining the rules to the audience, the course of the battle and the techniques used by the fighters.

During the festival, visitors will get acquainted with the daily life of our ancestors in the historical military camp located here on a plateau above the Gorodishchensky lake. The life of reenactors in the camp, regardless of the era presented, is characterized by full historical conformity.

Within the framework of the festival, there is a children's playground, where kids, putting on improvised armor, compete in soft swords, medieval fair and tavern, pass master classes and historical lessons.

Traditionally, at the walls of the Izborsk fortress, Kharkov folk group «SpiritualSeasons», which has become the mascot of the festival, performs with a concert program.

Analytical agency TurStat revealed the best and most popular tourist villages and villages of Russia in 2017, and Izborsk was in the top three most popular tourist villages in Russia, with the Iron Grad festival playing a significant role. This is one of the most famous historical reconstructions in the Russian Federation.
