The festival has been held annually since 1997 on the territory of the Kulikovo Field Museum-Reserve for a few days in September and is traditional in the framework of festive celebrations dedicated to the anniversaries of the Battle of Kulikovo in 1380.
Traditionally, the festival venue is a large meadow on the banks of the Don River on Red Hill near the village of Tatinki and the village of Monastyrshchino (Tula Region). It was here that at the Tatinsky Fords, Prince Dmitry Ivanovich with his army crossed Don on the eve of the battle.
The Middle Ages will reign on this iconic place for several days - the military tents of that time will spread out, the lovers of the history of two cultures - Russia and the Golden Horde - will live according to its laws, and the guests of "Kulikovo Field" will be able to witness the great battle.
The geography of the festival participants is vast - they are representatives of military-historical clubs, individual participants and masters from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and other countries. The first festival in 1997 brought together 97 lovers of medieval reconstruction from 11 clubs, mainly Tula. Since then the number of participants and clubs from different regions and countries has increased several times. Nowadays fans of historical battles come here, as well as those who revive the traditions of bygone days, regardless of gender and age. After all, the program "Kulikovo Field" is extensive and eventful.
At the festival with modern warriors dressed in historical costumes and armor, horse and foot tournaments, historical maneuvers and military all-around, various fights are being reconstructed. Archery and spearmen competitions, historical fencing tournaments, massive (30-50 people) buhurts (medieval battle) on the arena under torchlight and one-on-one historical fights are held - pair fights of Russian and Horde warriors.
